The-Best-Kept-Secret of Knysna?

The Forest Elephants

The most southerly elephants? Definitely. The last wild Elephants on the African continent? Almost sure? But the most important question: are they real or just a legend? Many of our guests at Candlewood told us about finding footprints, dung or destroyed road signs when they have been hiking in the forest. But we wanted to know it from the best source in Knysna: We met BBC-author and filmmaker Gareth Paterson for a cup of tea in town – and later he took Ines into the forests. He is convinced that there is a small herd of the Knysna elephants still browsing through the forests. There are some amazing stories about this very special animals. You can find them in his book: The Secrect Elephants. Have a look.
